Increase or Die

Tenet#9

Tenet # 9 We are committed to increase, as opposed to maintenance

We have two critters here; Increase & Maintenance. Don’t let Tenet #9 make Maintenance the enemy of Increase. Excellence in maintenance opens the door for greater increase. We’re not opposed to maintenance, we’re opposed to maintaining something that won’t grow.

Tenet # 9 in real ministry is: We are committed to increase, as opposed to laziness.

David set a precedent as to how maintenance and increase work together: As his part is who goes down to the battle so is his part who stays by the supplies, they shall share alike. (I Samuel 30:24) We’ll have the God-advantage to increase if we exercise the God-characteristic of generosity in recognition, appreciation, empowerment, equipping.

Here’s the Biblical mandate to increase: Pr 27:23-27

Be sure you know the condition of your flocks,

give careful attention to your herds;
for riches do not endure forever,
and a crown is not secure for all generations.
When the hay is removed and new growth appears
and the grass from the hills is gathered in,
the lambs will provide you with clothing,
and the goats with the price of a field.
You will have plenty of goats’ milk to feed your family

and to nourish your female servants.

Here’s my paraphrase:

Why be responsible? Because riches and crowns do not take care of themselves: The equity and influence you have built do not perpetuate themselves, entropy knocks at the door and it desires to take you.

What you maintain provides three essentials:

  1. Food
  2. Clothing, housing
  3. Expansion

Tenet #9 says that we believe in number three as well as one and two.

Tenet # 9 Be diligent to increase or expect to die.

If God is by nature a God of increase, we must be people of increase too.

Really, the question isn’t about ‘what’, everybody agrees to increase, so the question is ‘how?’
